Playing Memory Games Can Aid Seniors Brains

A recent study has shown that playing memory games, doing puzzles and art can aid senior’s memory and brain function. Science has discovered that keeping mentally active is shown to reduce the chance of developing dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers did a study with 180 people aged 65 to 75 who had good eyesight, hearing and communication skills.

They randomly assigned participants to training sessions twice a week for 12 weeks or to a wait list as part of the control group. The study found that memory games and cognitive training can improve memory, reasoning and attention span. Over time this can maintain the functioning of older people’s minds and keep them sharper which will stave off mental health disorders such as dementia. The memory games included cognitive training such as repeated practice, problem solving tasks and reasoning skills. The sessions lasted one hour for each patient in the group.

They also received homework to take home to reinforce what they have learned. The repetition went a long way in keeping the information fresh in their mind and making brain functioning easier. This training helped the participants score higher on a series of test designed to measure cognitive skills and abilities. The study showed that there were measurable benefits after the booster training sessions.

Mental Health And Feeling Good About Yourself

The brain is one of the most important organs in our body and is still an important mystery. Scientists around the world are continuously discovering mesmerizing capabilities of this organ. The unique thing about our brain is the way it can make us feel and how it controls those emotions.

We can refer to mental health therefore as a positive situation in which we feel positive with how we perceive and respond to the world around us. Let’s explore this topic further. Good mental health can be viewed as a very positive thing meaning that it is something that we all wish to experience.

Most of us want to be able to feel happy and respond well to those things around us. For example good mental health can help us to feel good about who we are and how we perceive ourselves. It can also help us to better project ourselves in the future with a positive outlook. Poor mental health is typified by an inability to deal with our surroundings and how they make us feel.

Brain Training And Learning Better

As much as our bodies can be trained to operate more effectively and kept physically healthy for longer periods of time, so can our brains and minds. Thanks to brain plasticity, we now know that by challenging our brain, we can train our cognitive abilities and skills to try to maintain them strong. So let’s discuss how brain training techniques can be used to enhance the way in which we think and learn.

There are few scientifically validated and effective brain training techniques available. These may be in the form of exercises or games which can help the brain to improve certain kinds of functions. For example there are very effective techniques to help a person to improve his/her memory functions.

A person can be trained to learn how to receive input, organize it, store it and then retrieve at a later time with a great deal of accuracy. So it is certainly possible to use these kinds of techniques to help someone to remember names, places, and important facts. These kinds of training techniques are for example very important for students who want to improve their grades. This is because memory is an essential part of learning. So students would be well advised to seek a number of effective training techniques which can enhance memory function.

Another aspect to brain training can be techniques to help a person to improve their language functions. Many exercises are available for these purposes. There are many other types of exercises and techniques which people can apply for brain fitness purposes and cognitive skills training. If one is interested in pursuing them, there are many ways to find good brain training techniques.

The Cognitive Abilities That Rule Your Life

When you have an itch, you will naturally scratch the itch to make it go away. When there is a group of numbers separated by dashes, you can easily make it out mentally to be a phone number.

And when someone says something to you, you can make out the words and formulate a complete sentence from it without having to consciously analyze every word that has been said. As humans, we use many cognitive abilities that we may take for granted but that truly rule our lives.

Every day we make use of these cognitive abilities to get through our daily life and do even the simplest of tasks. Sometimes there may be glitches or minor struggles with one thing or another, but that is just because each individual has differing strengths and weaknesses than the next.

With that said, here are some example of what can be described as cognitive abilities that you may have never thought of. Inductive reasoning is the ability to combine pieces of information to form various conclusions.

How To Exercise The Mind Through Brain Fitness

Our brain is one of the most complex organs in our bodies. Research on the brain and neuroscience in general are shedding light on several aspects that were misunderstood. The brain is incredible in what it can do from controlling our bodily functions to providing us with the ability to perform complex actions and thoughts on an ongoing manner.

We generally recognize the importance of keeping our bodies healthy through fitness but little emphasis is put on the brain. In reality, brain plasticity has shown that the same idea of keeping a good brain health can be done through brain fitness that will help to keep us functioning at an optimal level.

Here are some tips to help us to achieve better functioning of our brain through good fitness. One of the most important aspect which is very important for a good brain fitness is to make sure you follow a healthy diet.

It is very important to understand that we need to feed our brains with healthy food that provide the necessary nutrients for the brain to function properly. Try to avoid foods or drinks with excess sugars, fats, and preservatives. Stick with lean meats and plenty of vegetables. Minimize your intake of alcohol and by all means do not take drugs unless prescribed by your physician.

Are Mind Games All That They Are Cracked Up To Be?

You have seen it on TV and read it in the magazines; if you don’t use it you will lose it. But are mind games really all that they are cracked up to be? Can you really enhance your memory and avoid falling victim to that number that continues to get a little older by the second? There are skeptics out there, but the truth of the matter is these brain exercises and games can have a drastic impact for the better.

Brain plasticity is the brain’s ability to change itself by remodeling nerve cell connections after experience. By undergoing mind games and exercises, you actually have the ability to tap into your own and make a positive difference on your life and the future. These little tasks can help you prevent age-related memory decline. Even if you are a skeptic, why chance it and run the risk of developing dementia down the road?

After all, these games take a measly 10 to 20 minutes to do and can actually be quite entertaining as well. They can be challenging, amusing, and will alleviate any built-up stress that may be holding you back. If you are going to gain anything from these types of exercises, you want to know they are put together by people that know what they are doing.

Fortunately for you, it is nice to know that some of the most brilliant neuroscientists are behind the making of these mind games that seem to have flooded the market of late. It is important to note that hundreds of studies have examined the true benefits of brain training within the human mind.

Out of this, only a few have actually looked at whether or not the benefits gained from the exercises can be transferred over to real life scenarios. However, researchers are continuously studying every minute detail to further enhance these games and exercises to develop a true challenge for the human mind. The overall goal is to keep the mind running efficiently over time without allowing it to deteriorate with age.

How To Help Prevent Alzheimer’s With Mental Exercise

Alzheimer’s is a debilitating disease that affects memory, cognition, and the ability to perform normal daily functions.  There are ways though to prevent Alzheimer’s or at least slow the progression down by using mental exercise and other cognitive brain training activities.

For most people, going through the normal daily routines doesn’t challenge the brain enough to keep it sharp, active, and hold it back from deteriorating over time.  It is important to challenge your brain through various activities so your brain learns to fire more actively, even when you aren’t using it.  Thus, effectively reversing Alzheimer’s symptoms and/or preventing and slowing the entire process down.

Recent studies on brain research have shown that daily brain training could reduce the chance of getting Alzheimer’s by as much as 50%. This is significant finding and it would only make sense to participate in such training to reduce your own chances of ever contracting this serious disease.

Are You Affected By Memory Loss?

The brain has an amazing capacity to store and then recall information later.  In some cases it may be of short duration while other types of information may be able to be recalled many years later.  This is an essential part of how we learn and think.  However as we age, many people experience some type of memory loss.  We’ll discuss some of the common causes, symptoms, and treatments for memory loss.

The most common cause for memory loss is related to age.  The neural networks we have established over our lives tend to break down over time and if they are not reinforced, this can result in certain kinds of memory loss.

In addition, as people age the number of healthy brain cells tend to diminish due to overall deterioration of cellular function.  For the most part brain cells do not actively reproduce so the number of cells can steadily decrease over time.  This very much affects our ability to remember.

There are a number of diseases which can directly affect memory.  The most common is Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.  These diseases affect parts of the brain and very much affect memory function.  These diseases disrupt the electrical impulses which travel from brain cell to brain neurons.  They also cause brain cells to die which also very much affects memory and cognitive function.

Vitamin or mineral deficiency can cause memory loss.  If the brain is deprived of Vitamin D for example this can have a significant impact on brain function, especially memory.  B complex vitamins are also essential for good memory and a deficiency in certain types can create memory loss.

Drugs and alcohol can play an important role in memory loss.  This is especially true when these compounds are abused and taken over a long period of time.

The symptoms of memory loss should be very apparent.  The person who is suffering from memory loss can have a difficult time recalling information which previously was very easy for them to do so.  For example they may find that they have difficulty remembering people’s names or driving directions.  If the symptoms become severe enough they can forget who they are or where they live.

The treatments for memory loss can be very broad.  Certain drugs have been shown to benefit and improve memory loss.  Other treatments may be as simple as enhancing certain nutrients and vitamins.

And there are a number of exercises and techniques which can used to enhance memory function.  These can be in form of drills or brain training games.  They help to challenge the brain and teach it to process, store and retrieve information much more effectively.  There are also many promising techniques, which may help smoothen the symptoms caused by diseases like Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

How Can You Improve Your Memory?

Does it seem like you are always losing track of something or missing an important meeting because you forgot? If so you are not alone most people have this problem at least here and there. There are ways though to improve your memory and help your mind think more clearly.

There are many ways to improve your cognitive memory. Most are simple activities you can do that help stimulate your brain. They can include things like doing brain games such as puzzles or chess. These types of games require your mind to think and come up with strategies to win. This type of thinking is stimulating for your brain because it gives it a challenge.

Learning is also a great way to stimulate your mind and improve your memory. Take the time to learn something new maybe a hobby or a new language. Learning is food for the brain and the more good healthy food you give your brain the more efficiently it works. When your brain is efficient your memory is better.

There are even computer programs designed with scientific technology to improve your cognitive memory with just a few minutes a day of activity. These types of “brain games” give your mind the right kind of stimulation is small manageable chunks that everybody can find time for.

When your brain is sharper your mind can think more clearly. This means not only does your memory improve but you being to process information better and can make better decisions. When you are making good decisions this allows your life to be less stressful in general. Keeping your brain healthy and stimulated is one of the best things you can do for your overall health.

Even physical activity can be good for brain stimulation. Consider activities like dance or basketball these require not just your body but also your mind. With basketball for example you have to make quick decisions to be successful. The ability to make these quick decisions and execute them is great stimulation for your brain.

The key to improving your brain health, memory and stimulating your brain is consistency. If you do something to stimulate your brain today but then don’t do anything for 2 more months it will not be very effective. You should plan to do daily activities or at least every couple days to keep your mind sharp.

Some of your regular activities may be stimulating your brain anyway these activities can be counted. As long as you are doing something often to stimulate your brain health, you will quickly see the results of what a clear mind and increased memory can do for you.
