Fun Ways Of Improving The Memory
One thing many people do not know about the brain is that it can adapt to different types of changes even when they are old. The process is called brain plasticity, and it allows the brain to reshape itself in terms of memory and learning. For this reason, individuals have the power to harness their brain’s ability to reshape itself. While so doing, they will also be learning new things, increasing their cognitive abilities as well as improving their memory.
One of the ways to improve the memory is by getting enough rest. The brain is unable to operate fully when it is deprived of sleep, meaning that individuals will not be able to think critically, solve problems or be creative.
The other important thing is that by sleeping, individuals will be allow the brain to consolidate memory- a process that cannot be take place when they are awake. In order to achieve these, and juggle life’s activities, it is important that the brain gets the sleep it needs.
Having fun and hanging out with friends is also a good boost for the memory. Since humans are social animals, social relationships have a stimulating effect on the brain. It has been indicated that good relationships and support system are vital for emotional and brain health.
Laughing is one of the most stimulating activities for the brain, and unlike most others, it involves multiple areas of the brain. When listening to jokes and figuring out punch lines, the individual will also make their minds more creative and facilitate learning. Some ways of doing this is to spend time with fun people, laughing at their embarrassing moments, and keeping memories and aspects that lighten up the mood.
Hanging out with kids is also a great way of doing this because they are not only carefree but very entertaining. Use clues and other mnemonic devices to improve memory. This can be done by involving the different senses, for example, individuals can associate a person or an event with an image to help them remember. They can also use rhymes and alliteration or breaking information in tinier manageable pieces to make it easier for them to grasp and remember them.
While doing so, it is important to pay attention. One cannot remember something if they have not learnt it, and they cannot learn it if they have not encoded it in their mind. It is also recommended that they put all senses at work. This will allow them relate the information to aspects such as smells, textures, tastes and colors. To make it even easier to grasp the memory, the individuals should try to connect the new aspect to something they already know or remember.
The other best way to improve memory is to try to focus and understand basic ideas for complex aspects instead of memorizing separate details. They can also try explaining these concepts in their own words. Reviewing the information they have learnt on the same day is also encouraged as this will help in improving the working memory as well as the long term one.
