Brain Fitness Without Mental Exercise
When you think about brain fitness you tend to think about mental exercises that would improve how your brain works. However, there are many things you can do for other parts of your body that can have a positive effect on the fitness of your brain. Let’s talk about a few of those in this article.
1. Diet. What you eat, when you eat, and how often you eat really does affect your brain.
Your body needs a balanced diet to perform at its peak capacity. Eating correctly means balancing the food groups so your brain is not going through highs and lows all day.
This is especially true for sugar. Fruits and vegetables are a better option.
2. Drink plenty of water. Many people are de-hydrated during the day and do not even realize it.
Your brain is made up mostly of water. So is much of your body. Not replenishing it with adequate water throughout the day really affects how your mind works.
Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water and you will be amazed at how much better you feel. A quick look at the math let’s you know a 200 pound man should be drinking at least 100 ounces of water every day.
3. Exercise. Not only brain exercises, but physical exercise. Your brain is more fit when you are healthy.
Your body is healthier when you keep it fit with regular exercise. You do not need to psych yourself out about this. Even a 30 minute walk 3 to 4 times a week can be beneficial.
Thanks to television and long work days people tend to neglect exercise. You need to analyze your own situation to see when the best time to work out is.
Maybe before you go to work. You sure see a lot of people in fitness clubs at 5:00 a.m.
Some people are happy to go out and take a walk after dinner. This will help you keep the weight off and you will sleep better as well. Both of these are great for brain fitness.
4. Get enough sleep (avoid insomnia). Your brain is more alert if you get plenty of quality sleep. Many people are sleep deprived and that affects their overall performance during the day.
According to the National Sleep Foundation the amount of sleep a person needs will vary from 7 to 9 hours a day. How much are you getting?
These are a few tips to keep in mind regarding brain fitness and keeping your body fit.
